About Belle River & Lakeshore, ON

The Lakeshore region has a long history that dates back centuries. The Huron and Wyandot First Nations originally settled here, followed by the French and later the English. Belle River was also one of the final destinations for people escaping slavery in the U.S. via the Underground Railroad.

The area was once a collection of small towns and villages, but in 1999 these were amalgamated into the Lakeshore municipality. As you travel through Lakeshore, you can still find distinctive characteristics in each of the townships. 

Lakeshore, ON has a small-town rural feel, but it is connected to larger urban centres by a series of county roads and the 401 Highway. Windsor and Detroit are just a 30-minute drive from Belle River. The scenic towns of Kingsville and Leamington are also just a 30-minute drive away.

The Atlas Tube Recreation Centre offers facilities for the whole family. The centre is home to three NHL-size ice rinks, a number of pools, a gym, and an indoor running track. Outside there are soccer fields, tennis courts, and a five-kilometre trail for walking, jogging, and cycling.
