Essex is a community rich in history with several cultural and heritage sites including Canadian Transportation Museum and Heritage Village, Essex, and Community Historical Research Society, Essex County Steam and Gas Engine Museum, Essex Railway Station, Harrow Early Immigrant Research Society, John R. Park Homestead, and an Outdoor Mural Gallery, to name a few.
The town was officially established on January 1, 1999, when two existing townships Essex, Harrow, Colchester North, and Colchester South were amalgamated.
While the town as we know it today is relatively new, the area was settled as early as the late 1700s.
Essex has a number of schools for all ages including six elementary schools (one french language school included), two secondary schools, and one private school. Esteemed post-secondary schools are only a short distance away in Windsor and Detroit to the north.

This historic site is a popular destination for school field trips and always delights with the many special events hosted throughout the year.
